Sanctuary
Sanctuary a space created to provide repose, to rest the soul and guard against external interference. Following are images of my home, mia casa, my sanctuary and spaces that nurture my soul. This blog is a photographic celebration of the spaces we manifest to let us find refuge and recover our energy after our daily toil.
Bed
Oh haven of slumber keeper of dreams where my weary bones find solace and mind stillness.
Morning Altar
Beepbeepbeep until my hand strikes the alarm that peirced my sleep. Awaken to a new day with new possibilities. Intentions to be set. To orient the day.
Salute to my east rising sun
Bed yoga graduating to floor yoga the flexing and contracting of limbs to reboot brain, connect breath and energise my soul.
Fortress Gate
The garden gate to my space. Moats, drawbridges, iron gates with rampant walls are not reserved to the medieval period as we all guard, our castle, our sanctuary.
Refuge in a place of work
The last few weeks my meditation teachers Dr Richard Yin and Sara Elderfield have been teaching us of the Buddhist concept of refuge. I am building on this holding of my values/ vision: kindness, compassionate, love etc whilst being present in a setting that is contrary to this. Our daily challenges is to hold this refuge not only in our heart but extending to others. There are times when we don’t know how or if this is possible but my sanctuary allows me to rekindle refuge.
Nature Sanctuary
The blessing of being able to walk in the parklands or bush – green healers work their wonder after work.
Shafts of light, shadows on wetlands, movement in reeds, song of chitty chitty birds and the blow of breeze I am in my outdoor sanctuary.
Door to souls sanctuary
Like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz I tap my heels together to take me home. May you have a space where you find peace as fleeting as it can be, nurture and thrive here.
